Stacey Coffee

Lecture :  November 12,2026

Stacey Coffee.jpg

About Stacey Coffee

Textile Artist - Collage Enthusiast I've had an emotional attachment to fabric for as long as I can remember but never fell in love with traditional quilting. Once I’ve pieced together enough blocks to see what the completed project will look like... I lose all interest.  For me, the art of textile collage is an ever-evolving journey, full of exploration and creativity right up until the final stitch—and that’s exactly what I’d love to share with you. My quilting journey began in 1996, inspired by the legacy of my great-grandmother Maggie V. Folk McClellan, whose modern, intuitive quilts have touched four generations of my family. Rooted in Appalachian and Southern African American traditions, my work honors storytelling, resourcefulness, and cultural memory. As founder of The Quilt Empowerment Project, I blend my background in engineering with a deep love for fabric to teach structured, culturally responsive quilting. I often incorporate African textiles, historic block patterns, and symbolic color to preserve ancestral narratives and inspire new traditions.

Lisa Ruble.png

 "Motif + Scale + Color = Fabric

The formula sounds simple, but designing fabric is very much like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. If you’ve ever wondered what the quilt fabric design process looks like, this lecture is for you! I will share all the steps along the way, from finding inspiration and choosing patterns and scale to adding color, and the hardest part of all, naming the fabric collection! Hear about narrowing down more than 70 different color choices to just 14 for my first collection, as well as show how I designed quilts specifically to help promote the fabrics.

About Carol Wilhoit

During forty years of making quilts and being part of the quilting community, I’ve learned much about quilting. However, many techniques that I use constantly are rarely discussed, and I almost missed learning about them. Fill some gaps in your education with the most valuable information that I almost failed to learn about thread, fabric, piecing, batting and machine quilting.

The walking foot does far more than stitching in the ditch! Walking foot quilting can be an easy and attractive way to quilt your own quilts and other projects such as runners and totes. In this class, you will learn creative ways to use your walking foot for quilting. The class will include straight line quilting, stitching in the ditch, how to stitch straight lines without marking your quilt, quilting with curved lines, spiral quilting, quilting with special stitches on your machine, and quilting curved designs using easy-to-make templates. Since the way you prepare for quilting makes a difference in the results, the class also covers needles, thread, batting, marking and basting your quilt, and setting up your machine.

Kestrel Michaud

Lecture :  May 13, 2027

Kestral Michaud.jpg

About Kestrel Michaud

The first step of creating fine art is to create “good” art, and good art starts with good design. Quilts and other fabric artwork are no exception. But fabric is not a traditional fine art medium. Pictures designed with fabric in mind need to incorporate traditional fine art elements of design in their own unique way. The challenges faced by quilters when creating realism-style art cannot be solved in the same manner as an artist using traditional medium. This lecture is focused on incorporating principles of good design into art quilt layouts with the intent of creating a realistic piece of art using fabric as a medium.
