2021 - 2022 Programs and Workshops

Workshop Hours

Doors open at 8:30 am   

Full Day Workshops from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm  Half Day Workshops from 9:00 am - noon

Workshop Costs

Zoom full day classes are $40 members and $50 for nonmembers.

Zoom 1/2 day classes are $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers.

 

In person full day classes are $40 members and $50 for nonmembers.

In person 1/2 classes are $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers.

Classes are open to nonmembers 60 days prior to class date.
You may email to be place on a waiting list.

We start the year with Jane Sassaman  http://janesassaman.com, award winning quilter and designer for FreeSpirit fabrics, who will talk to us about the creative process she uses in designing fabric, entitled “Jane’s Textile Treasure Garden”.

Jane Sassaman In-person workshop

“Domestic Bliss: Abstract Applique Still Life”

We will begin this workshop by looking at examples of abstract still lives by several 20th century artists. Then we will simplify our subjects by cutting paper shapes to play with perspective, light and shadow and composition. Then we will transform our paper pictures into fabric appliqué.

In November, our lecturer will be Professor Tracy Vaughn-Manley, Ph.D, of Northwestern University’s Dept. of African American Studies.  Dr. Vaughn-Manley discusses the distinctive aspects that define the Black Aesthetic quilting tradition and how quilting is used by Black women writers: Toni Morrison, Nikki Giovanni, and others to assert individual/collective agency and build community (ies).
