About Kestrel Michaud
The first step of creating fine art is to create “good” art, and good art starts with good design. Quilts and other fabric artwork are no exception. But fabric is not a traditional fine art medium. Pictures designed with fabric in mind need to incorporate traditional fine art elements of design in their own unique way. The challenges faced by quilters when creating realism-style art cannot be solved in the same manner as an artist using traditional medium. This lecture is focused on incorporating principles of good design into art quilt layouts with the intent of creating a realistic piece of art using fabric as a medium.

Workshop Friday and Saturday May 14 & 15, 2027 2-Day (Class limited to 24)
A student could sign up for both days, or just the first or second day depending on what they want to learn. The purpose of this class is to teach and learn more art skills that directly relate to creative design, specifically art quilt design. The take home is knowledge, not a specific project. Day 1 - Idea generation - Learn to draw like an artist - Color and Value - Highlight, Midtone, Shadow - Color Combinations Day 2 - Perspective (in drawing and photos) - Elements & principles of design - Developing a composition - Picking fabric - one more TBD! (Kit $75)

Workshop Costs
Classes are $40 members and $50 for non-members.2 day Classes are $80 members and $100 for non-members.
