Jill Shaulis is a fabric and pattern designer. Jill loves using antique quilts/pieces to draw inspiration, and often changes up the scale and colors to fit her ‘style’. Since she’s a scrappy designer for the most part, she doesn’t design around a color theme, but instead tries to offer a wide range of colors to work into any scrappy project. She currently owns and operates the store Yellow Creek Quilt Designs (YCQD), located in Pearl City, IL. Creating and sewing have been a part of Jill’s life since she was very small. Her mom taught her to sew clothing and they took their first quilting class together in the late 1980s.

Jill opened a quilt/gift shop with her sister Vicki in 1992. The pattern company, YCQD launched and has grown to be a well-respected and trusted pattern company in the quilting industry.

Landscape Quilter

Darlene Price has been around a needle and thread and a sewing machine all of her life. After she retired from life as a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal her goal was to figure out quilting. In 2013, armed with a needle, thread and cardboard templates she embarked on her first quilt. When she got to the binding, she couldn’t figure out how to do that by hand so she bought a machine. Darlene hasn’ t looked back and is the happiest she has ever been.

I have been fascinated with fabric, sewing and quilting since the age of nine, when I took my first sewing class and won a prize for my corduroy jumper and print shirt. When I saw an ancestor’s quilt in the Smithsonian at age thirteen, I was hooked. I taught myself to quilt from a book and used cardboard templates and scissors to make my first quilt, a Log Cabin. It has been a love affair ever since.

I love using fabrics, themes and colors from nature, but also lean more and more to bright fabrics with prints. Many of my works have a “traditional with a twist” quality. I rely on inspirations from generations gone by and
put a contemporary feel to my designs.

Lecture  7:00 pm  Zoom

“Panel Quilts”

Picture1cindy.jpg

Cyndi McChesney - a quilt artist, author, long-arm quilter, teacher and lecturer who revels in finding simple solutions to complex questions about quilt making and quilt design.

Cyndi designs a few steps ahead of herself, planning her next quilts while her current project is still on the design wall. That keeps her creativity at a constant flow, and Cyndi rarely encounters the question, “What do I do next?” She dives right into the next quilt! She teaches quilting in much the same way. Nothing gives her more joy than seeing a student’s creative spark ignite and take them places they never realized they could go.

Natasha Lewis, Fiber Artist    https:/www.natashalehrerlewis.com

Lecture  7:00 pm

In my pieces, I strive to build a foundation using materials that shape my core. My fibers come from local farms as well as our own flock, and I spend much time with my hands in the dye pot, letting the colors come to life. By keeping the materials connected to the land, I can broaden the depth and meaning of my pieces even more. When asked what my favorite technique is, I really cannot answer. I draw on all my skills to create just the effect I am looking for. Because I start at the source, I can control every facet of the process, spinning just the right texture, dyeing just the perfect shade, felting to just the specific drape, beading to the most precise detail.

I was fortunate to grow up with a mom who does all kinds of needle arts. I began sewing doll clothes when I was 6 years old, Later I graduated to making all of my own clothing. By the time I discovered quilting, I had a healthy supply of scraps just waiting to become quilts. Combining that with my love of puzzles made quilting a natural fit.

In my over 45 years of teaching quilt making, I have enjoyed being on the faculty of several distinguished conferences across the nation (including the AQS show in Paducah), as well as working with guilds of memberships ranging from 25 to 400.

I am a graduate of the Embroiderers' Guild of America's Teacher Certification Program in Quilt making. The intensive two-year examination program tests not only the candidates' stitching skills but also their knowledge of color and design, history of their chosen field, and classroom abilities. I am one of only a handful of instructors nationwide who have been certified by the Embroiderer's Guild of America (EGA) as an Instructor in Quilt making.

A native of upstate New York State, I currently live in southwest Wisconsin.

Mexican Cross Workshop

9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Cheery colors pop in this fun version of the Mexican Cross block. This complex looking pattern is a snap when you make it with my shortcut techniques. Not only is it a great pattern for using up lots of different fabrics in one quilt, but the construction technique cleverly creates a bonus quilt out of the cutaways.

Lecture  7:00 pm   ZOOM

“Pojagi – The Art of Korean Quilting”

No profesional email

My style of quilting is probably best described as “eclectic”. I love traditional blocks and patterns, but I also like using them in new ways and exploring modern interpretations. I am also influenced by pojagi (traditional Korean patchwork) which has a more improvisational style.

Pojagi is the name for traditional Korean sewing techniques used to make wrapping cloths. It has been around for hundreds of years, pre-dating quilting by centuries.

I am not Korean, so I don’t have all the cultural background and understanding that Korean pojagi artists have. I had the amazing opportunity to learn pojagi when I lived in Korea with my young family. Since then, I have continued to research and learn. When I returned to Canada, I had limited availability for the authentic Korean materials, so I began to experiment with things that were more available to me.

Eventually, I developed window hangings. These are made with pojagi-style reversible seams that are sewn by machine. In sunlight, they glow like stained glass. This is what I am most known for today.
