Salt Creek Quilter's Guild began September, 1981 under the direction of
Paula Buttel with a membership of 37. At that meeting, held at the La Grange Public Library,
the guild name was adopted and the logo adopted May, 1982. The logo was designed by Helen Wiss.
In 1983 the guild's first out of state speaker was Doreen Speckman. By-laws were adopted September,
1983. Over the years the guild meetings have moved six times to accommodate the growing membership.
To date we have 250 members.
The first quilt show "A Schoolhouse of Quilts" was held September, 1986.
Since that time, the guild hosts a quilt show in years ending with an even number. The 25th Anniversary
Celebration was held March, 2006 at The Hinsdale Community House, Hinsdale, IL.
Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month, September through May.
Well-known, informative and entertaining speakers present lectures at the meetings. Hands-on workshops
for guild members are held the following Friday and Saturday. These workshops offer a variety of
quilting techniques.
