Here is a simple way to make coasters with 5 inch squares.
You will need (6) 5 inch matching squares and a 5 inch square of batting.
Fold 4 of the squares diagonally. Press. For illustration, different fabrics are used.
Make a sandwich with the other (2) 5 inch squares placing the right
sides on the outside and the batting in the middle. Baste together with about 1/8" seam.
This is to hold the sandwich together with the basting seam inside the final 1/4" seam.
Layer as follows:
Bottom: Sandwich.
Next: Place raw edges of a folded square in upper left corner.
Next: Place raw edges of another folded square in the lower left corner.
Next: Place raw edges of another folded square in lower right corner.
Next: Place raw edges of the remaining folded square in upper right corner.
Lift the raw edge of the last folded square in the upper left corner and tuck
it underneath the first folded square. It should resemble the top of a box with the flaps interwoven.
Pin all layers together and sew a 1/4" seam.
Clip corners and turn inside out. You have a coaster.
